DataCenter Security Event
18 September 2020

Data centre security broadly refers to the array of technologies and practices used to protect a facility’s physical infrastructure and network systems from external and internal threats. On a very basic level, data centre security is all about restricting and managing access. A data centre is a centralised cluster of computing and networking equipment that stores and processes business-critical information for an enterprise in one physical location. Businesses must use both physical and virtual security measures to protect their data centre. Network security is yet another concern for securing a data centre, since malware and other threats can reach a data centre through the network. The most effective security solutions for data centers include both physical and virtual security tools. Since the equipment housed in a data centre is both sensitive and bulky, there are special considerations for physical security. For example, water and electronics do not mix, so traditional fire suppression systems cannot work in a data centre.
